We just spent all of last week in Miami, FL! JM has taken on a bit of a leadership role at the hospital and was asked to attend a conference there, so we decided to extend our stay and turn it into a family vacation. I kept telling JM it would be our "last" vacation for awhile and he would make fun of me. I just can't imagine taking a baby anywhere like this for awhile.
Anyway, we stayed at Casa Moderna because it was close to where his conference was held. It looked nice on the internet but I don't think we had any idea of just how swanky the place really was. Maybe even a bit too much for us....
Our "room." Although, I will admit that it was nice having all of the space since we were there for a week.
Our bathroom. We also had two separate toliet areas - one in the bathroom area with a bidet, and one closer to the main living space. Also, I don't know if you can really tell, but another fun feature was the shower area. I've seen something similar on pinterest but never in real life - It was a walk in shower with the tub enclosed too. It's on the very far end where the windows are, if you can't tell.
And another thing that I will admit that was really nice - the walk in closet! Obviously, by the end of the week, this little room was just a huge mess, but it was nice to be able to just shut the door to it!
Alrighty, on to our activities!
We went to the Miami seaquarium. I really wanted Jenna to see the dolphins and that was definitely the highlight of our whole experience there. She loved the show and kept saying, "This is so cool!" We were up close and even got splashed a couple of times!
There was also a little waterpark playground area and, of course, that was probably her favorite thing there! It was so hot that day - (mid 80's!) that we just let her play. And geesh, I completely forgot what it's like to be hot and pregnant! Thankfully, I had also brought an extra set of clothes with us in case we went to the beach too and I learned from that day on to always be prepared with an extra set again!
A cute one of all of us!
We also tried to go to the beach just as much as we could. Truth be told, we could have skipped a few things, saved the money and just gone to the beach. The beach was Jenna's truly happy place. Seriously. She had so much fun there and it was just all simple fun. We also went to our hotel pool a couple of times and she loved that too.
Anyway, this picture probably ranks in my absolute favorite pictures ever category. This is the only one I took with my iphone - the rest are all JM's. But, gosh, look how perfect it is. See how truly happy she was?!?
Just another cute beach pic. She loved playing in the sand.
We also went to the zoo. Everytime Jenna saw one of these animal statue places, she'd run over to it and say, "Daddy, take my picture!" I mean, how could he say no to that?!?
We rented a bicycle to go around the zoo with. Jenna loved it - but of course, she wasn't doing any of the work! It was way more exhausting than we thought, but I'm sure it still beat walking all around too.
The main thing Jenna wanted to see at the zoo was the giraffes. She found them on the map and couldn't stop talking about going to see them.
We went to one other animal place - Jungle Island. I read lots of great reviews about it, but we were kind of let down. There just wasn't as much to do here and this is something we probably could have just skipped altogether.
Another one of her posing in front of an animal statue. This is the only pic I'm posting from there because there really just isn't that much more to say about it.
And the last thing we did on Friday was go on a big bus tour. This was an all day event for us because we decided to get off at several stops. I kind of have mixed feelings about this experience, but it was nice seeing a few different areas we probably wouldn't have seen otherwise such as Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Little Havana and the South beach area. Little Havana was definitely an area we probably wouldn't have gone to on our own, but it was definitely filled with culture. They had an outside area where all of these (mostly older) people sat playing chess and checkers and I thought that was on the neatest things.
Anyway, it was just a great week of just being together. We definitely decided that we like the slower pace of living here in small town MO, but we are glad to have to been able to have the experience of just going and visiting. And we also definitely loved the nice change in temp! We got to miss out on another snowstorm here. And that, was realllllllllllly nice. :)
Oh.....and one more thing....Yes, I heard this song from JM probably at least 5 times a day while we were there....:)
